Privacy Policy

Introduction & Scope

This policy explains how Snapzy handles your data. We're privacy-first — your data stays on your device by default.

This Privacy Policy describes how Snapzy ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our macOS application and website (snapzy.app).

Snapzy is built with a privacy-first philosophy. All screen captures, recordings, and extracted text are stored locally on your device by default. We do not monitor, access, or collect your content unless you explicitly use sharing features.

Data Controller

Snapzy is responsible for your data. Contact us at support@snapzy.app.

The data controller for information processed through Snapzy is:

  • Entity: Snapzy
  • Email: support@snapzy.app
  • Website: snapzy.app

Data We Collect

Most data stays on your device. We only transmit minimal data for update checks and optional sharing.

Local-only data (never leaves your device):

  • Screenshots and screen recordings
  • Audio recordings (when microphone is enabled)
  • OCR-extracted text from captures
  • Annotations and edits
  • File paths and save locations

Transmitted data:

  • Update checks via Sparkle framework: app version, macOS version, IP address
  • Shared content: only when you explicitly use sharing features

Website data:

  • Waitlist email addresses (voluntarily submitted)

We do not collect: keystroke data, background screen monitoring, browsing history, or any data beyond what is listed above. We do not sell your data to third parties.

How We Use Your Data

We use data only for core functionality: app updates, sharing (when you choose), and waitlist communication.

  • Update checks: To notify you of new versions and security patches
  • Sharing features: To host temporarily shared content via links you create
  • Waitlist emails: To notify you about product updates and availability

Data Storage & Security

Your captures and recordings are stored locally on your Mac. We use encryption for any data in transit.

All capture data is stored locally on your Mac in locations you choose. We do not have access to your local files.

When data is transmitted (update checks, shared content), we use HTTPS/TLS encryption. Shared content is stored on secure servers with access controls.

Sharing Features & Temporary Links

Sharing is always user-initiated. Content is uploaded only when you create a share link and can be revoked anytime.

When you use sharing features, the selected content is uploaded via encrypted connection. A temporary link is generated that you can share with others.

You can revoke any share link at any time from within the app. Once revoked, the shared content is deleted from our servers.

Third-Party Services

We use minimal third-party services: Sparkle for updates. No analytics tracking on our website.

Sparkle Framework: Used for automatic update checks. Sparkle transmits your app version, macOS version, and IP address to GitHub to check for new releases. See Sparkle's documentation for details.

We do not use website analytics services. We do not track your browsing behavior.

Data Retention

Local data: you control it. Waitlist emails: until you unsubscribe. Shared links: until you revoke them.

  • Local files: You control retention — delete them whenever you want
  • Shared content: Retained until you revoke the share link
  • Waitlist emails: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion
  • Update check logs: Not retained by Snapzy

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, and port your data. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

Under GDPR (EU users): Access, rectification, erasure, data portability, restriction of processing, objection, withdrawal of consent.

Under CCPA (California users): Right to know, delete, opt-out of sale/sharing (we do not sell data), non-discrimination.

Under Vietnam PDPL: Right to know, consent/decline, view/edit/delete, request data provision, restrict/object processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@snapzy.app. We will respond within 30 days.

International Data Transfers

Update checks route through GitHub servers. We ensure appropriate safeguards for any cross-border data transfer.

Sparkle update checks are routed through GitHub's infrastructure, which may involve servers in multiple countries. Shared content may be stored on servers outside your home country.

Where personal data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including standard contractual clauses where required.

Children's Privacy

Snapzy is not designed for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.

Snapzy is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@snapzy.app and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We'll notify you of significant changes via our app or website.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the application or our website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.

Your continued use of Snapzy after policy changes constitutes acceptance. For material changes that affect how we process your data, we may request renewed consent where required by law.
