Video Editor

Trim recordings, add zoom effects, set backgrounds, and export in custom dimensions without leaving Snapzy.

Trim & Timeline

The video editor shows a visual timeline with a frame strip so you can scrub to the exact moment you want to cut.

  • Drag the start and end handles to set the clip range.
  • Scrub through the frame strip for precise edits.
  • Undo and redo any trim change.

Follow Mouse / Smart Camera

If the recording was made with Smart Camera metadata enabled, the editor can build a Follow Mouse path automatically.

  • Auto-focus — zoom segments follow the cursor path without manual keyframes.
  • Manual zoom — add custom zoom segments when no Smart Camera metadata is available.
  • Smooth transitions — zoom in and out with interpolated motion.

Note — Smart Camera metadata is collected during recording. Enable it in Preferences → Recording for best results.

Wallpaper Backgrounds & Padding

Change the background behind your recording to create polished exports for social media or documentation.

  • Choose a solid color or wallpaper image.
  • Add padding around the recording for a framed look.
  • Backgrounds apply to the final export, not the source recording.

Export Settings

Export your edited video or GIF with full control over dimensions and format.

  • Custom dimensions — set width and height independently of the source resolution.
  • GIF export — convert a segment to an animated GIF with adjustable size.
  • Video export — output as MP4 with the original or custom resolution.

Audio Controls & Multitrack Mixing

Snapzy screen recordings capture system audio and microphone inputs as separate, high-fidelity AAC-LC 48 kHz stereo tracks. The built-in editor lets you mix and balance these tracks independently.

  • Independent Track Volume — Adjust the level of your voice-over and system/game audio separately using the sliders in the editor panel.
  • Live Preview — Audio adjustments are processed in real-time using macOS AVAudioMix pipelines so you hear changes instantly.
  • Automatic Downmix — Upon export, the editor normalizes and merges all active tracks into a single stereo track for maximum compatibility across web players and platforms.
  • Backward Compatibility — Files recorded without multitrack metadata or imported external videos are treated as single-track assets with one master volume control.

Animated GIF Viewer

Preview animated GIFs directly inside the video editor before exporting. The viewer shows frame timing and loops so you can verify the result.

Undo & Redo

Every edit in the video editor is reversible. Use ⌘Z to undo and ⌘⇧Z to redo. The history persists for the current editing session.
