Permissions & Privacy
Snapzy is built privacy-first. Captures stay on your Mac. There is no required cloud, no account, and no telemetry. Below is exactly what each macOS permission is used for.
macOS Permissions
How to Grant Permissions
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Choose Screen Recording (or Accessibility / Microphone as needed).
- Toggle the switch next to Snapzy on.
- Quit and reopen Snapzy so the new permission takes effect.
Onboarding — first-time users are guided through required permissions during the initial setup flow.
Re-grant Permissions After v1.25.0
v1.25.0 is the first notarized release of Snapzy. Because macOS links TCC permissions to the app's signing identity, permissions granted to older ad-hoc builds are not recognized by the notarized app.
After updating to v1.25.0:
- Open Snapzy → Help → Restart Onboarding and grant each permission again when prompted.
- If you prefer to do it manually, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and re-approve Snapzy in:
- Screen Recording
- Files & Folders (Save Folder)
- Microphone
- Accessibility
- Quit and reopen Snapzy after toggling any permission.
Revoke Permissions or Reset TCC
You can revoke any permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security. To fully reset all Snapzy permissions and app data, run the uninstall script:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/duongductrong/Snapzy/master/uninstall.sh | bash
You may need to log out or reboot for TCC changes to fully take effect.
Privacy Stance
- No required cloud sync. Captures live in the folder you choose, on your machine. Cloud upload is opt-in.
- No telemetry. Snapzy does not collect usage analytics, crash reports, or any identifiers.
- No accounts. No sign-up, no login.
- Open source. Inspect the code on GitHub.
