Frequently Asked

macOS says "Snapzy can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."

This happens because Snapzy is distributed outside the Mac App Store. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section, and click Open Anyway next to Snapzy. This is a one-time step.

Snapzy and macOS both fire when I press ⌘⇧3 / ⌘⇧4 / ⌘⇧5.

By design — Snapzy reuses macOS's default screenshot keys so the muscle memory transfers. To make Snapzy the only handler, disable macOS's built-in shortcuts in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Screenshots. You can also remap any Snapzy shortcut from Snapzy → Preferences → Shortcuts.

Capture shortcuts do nothing when I press them.

Snapzy needs Accessibility permission for global shortcuts when it's in the background. Enable it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then quit and reopen Snapzy.

My screen recording is black or shows the desktop wallpaper only.

You haven't granted Screen Recording permission yet. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, toggle Snapzy on, then quit and reopen Snapzy.

How do I capture a single window or app?

Trigger Capture Area ( 4) and press A to switch to Application Capture, or use A globally. The same pattern works in Record Video for application-only recordings.

Where are my files saved?

Snapzy → Preferences → General → Save Location. Default is ~/Pictures/Snapzy. Files never leave your Mac unless you opt in to Cloud Upload.

Recordings are huge. Can I shrink them?

MP4 is the smallest practical format. In Preferences → Recording, drop the framerate to 30 fps and keep resolution at native. For sharing in chat apps, export to GIF — it's heavily compressed by design.

Can I record system audio?

Yes. In the recording control panel, enable System Audio. Microphone input is a separate toggle in the same place.

Is there a Windows or Linux version?

Not yet. Snapzy is macOS-only and built natively for it. Since the project is open source under BSD 3-Clause, contributions for other platforms are welcome.

How do I update Snapzy?

Snapzy checks for updates automatically via Sparkle on launch. You can also open Snapzy → Check for Updates manually, or download the latest DMG from the Download page.

How do I completely uninstall Snapzy?

Run the uninstall script to remove the app, preferences, caches, and reset TCC permissions:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/duongductrong/Snapzy/master/uninstall.sh | bash
You may need to log out or reboot for permission resets to fully take effect.

macOS still blocks Snapzy even after clicking Open Anyway.

Because Snapzy is not notarized by Apple yet, macOS may still quarantine it. After installing to/Applications, run:
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Snapzy.app

How do I report a problem or send diagnostic logs?

Snapzy can bundle diagnostic logs for troubleshooting. Use the in-app problem reporting flow (Snapzy → Report a Problem) to generate a log bundle. This helps maintainers reproduce issues without sharing your captures.

Can I clear Snapzy's cache?

Yes. Snapzy stores temporary captures and processing files in Application Support. You can clear cache from Snapzy Preferences or manually delete~/Library/Caches/com.duongductrong.Snapzy.
